Pizza Sauce
The most important part of pizza is the sauce.
In my attempt to get a Cooking with Friends Pizza Edition going, I made some dough (which was decent) but I made some sauce, which was better (and much easier) than I expected. Here it is! I hope you love it as much as I do!
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Makes approximately 3 cups
Ingredients
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
4 garlic cloves
8 tbsp tomato paste (the amount in 1 small can)
1 680ml bottle of crushed tomatoes
1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 a small red onion
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (or as much as you want!)
Method
In a saucepan, heat oil over medium.
Add garlic and sauté until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
Add the tomato paste and cook until the colour changes to a brick red, stirring regularly (2-3 minutes).
Add the crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano and red pepper flakes.
Add the onion as 1 unit (don't chop it up, you will be removing it later).
Simmer for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. You might need to add a little water if it starts to look dry.
When done, remove from heat and remove the onion and proceed to use it on all the pizzas!
